These Are 7 Simple Solutions to Skin Care Questions

Man Using Facial Scrub

You likely know you should be wearing SPF. But you might not be if you’ve had bad experiences with creams that were too thick or did not offer the right protection. We talked to skin care experts Alex Penfold and Jen Yu of grooming brand Jaxon Lane for some advice on protecting, cleansing an restoring skin.

How Do You Recommend Applying SPF?

It’s best to apply sunblock just before going outside, and re-apply every two hours. And this is not just when you go to the beach, but every single day. Even on cloudy days, skin-damaging UVA rays can penetrate clouds. It’s no different for cold or hot weather. For instance, places with snow can reflect UVA and UVB rays. so even if it’s only a bit sunny, you can still get skin damage. In hot weather, it’s especially important to reapply throughout the day, because sunscreen can sweat off. We called our SPF “Rain or Shine” because we really want to drive home the importance of wearing sunscreen every single day, no matter what you do. Plus our sunscreen is non-greasy and doesn’t leave a white film, so there’s no excuse – rain or shine.

What If You Have a Darker Skin-tone?

A lot of sunscreens leave a white film on the skin, especially at higher SPFs. It was really important for us to create a sunscreen that has high protection but feels great going on the skin, so ours is super lightweight and rubs in clear. It also doesn’t have the sunscreen smell that is characteristic of a lot of SPFs. We really want to turn sunscreen into a good experience!

How Do You Cleanse And Restore Skin After You’ve Used SPF?

With the sunscreen, we also launched “Shake And Wake”, a travel-friendly enzyme powder face wash. When you wear sunscreen, you need to use a good face wash to get the grime from the day off of your skin, to cleanse the skin and prevent breakouts. Our face wash is loaded with vitamins and fruit enzymes to gently exfoliate the skin, leaving it super smooth. Our first product was the “Bro Mask,” a hydrogel sheet mask that is like a cram session for your skin. Leave it on for 20 minutes and your skin will get a nice healthy glow. It’s an extra treat to add to the daily sunscreen and face wash routine.

Can You Point to Any Celebs Who Use Your Product?

We have a lot of celebrity groomers that use the Bro Mask on celebrity clients before red carpet events, like Neil Patrick Harris and Justin Theroux. These guys always look like they’re effortlessly glowing and that’s how it should be!

Can You Use a Bro Mask If You Have Facial Hair?

We made the Bro Mask in two pieces so that guys with beards can just use the top half. The bottom half is great for applying to the neck to calm the skin after a shave.

Can You Wear Your SPF In Combination with a Concealer?

It’s perfect to wear under makeup because it’s not greasy and you don’t feel like you have layers of caked-on product. The face wash is great for gently removing makeup without stripping the skin of all of its natural oils, which can lead to breakouts.

How Do I Convince My Stubborn Partner to Use SPF?

Great skin speaks for itself! If you cleanse your skin well, use daily SPF, and add the occasional Bro Mask, you will see a noticeable difference with your skin, and your partner will too. Before long you might catch them sneaking in and trying your stuff.
