Dr. Bradley’s Fabulous Functional Narcissism: The Psychoanalytic Odyssey of a Once Glorified Chorus Boy returns to the NYC stage to delight us some more in 2019. All proceeds of this show will benefit the Actors Fund. The scripted show (by Bradley Jones) has been directed by KT Sullivan, Artistic Director of the Mabel Mercer Foundation. The Music Director is Mike Pettry, who leads Jones’ band, The Freudians.
“Dr. Bradley wielded his psychological prowess like a surgeon’s scalpel, with the exquisite timing of a Borscht Belt comic.” – David Sabella, CabaretHot Spot
Dr. Bradley Jones (the shingle is real, he is a NYC psychoanalyst) regales the audience through 70 minutes of history from his childhood as a budding theater queen, nearly a decade on Broadway in “A Chorus Line,” tales of backstage life and excessive drug use, living through the AIDS pandemic, his decision to pursue a new career…and a MURDER! He applies a rapier wit and psychoanalytic expertise to these true life tales, and recounts his own 15 years of psychoanalysis in under 7 minutes in tap shoes.
The show features mainly the music of Jones’ milieu: Broadway standards including the songs of Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, Harold Arlen, Ray Heindorf, Brian Yorkey and more.
