SR Socially Relevant Film Festival New York – March 2019

Now in its sixth year, SR Socially Relevant™ Film Festival New York is excited to announce that submissions are now open for its forthcoming edition to take place March 15-21, 2019 at Cinéma Village and nearby venues in downtown Manhattan. The festival’s 2019 edition will showcase narrative feature films, documentary features, narrative short films and documentary shorts from all over the world, as well as offer an array of workshops, industry panels at the SVA Social Documentary MFA film department, the New School, in collaboration with Professional Production and Distribution companies. The above categories are all awarded winning prizes. There will be an AR/VR and 360 films exhibit, in partnership with Samsung, and a winner will be selected in this category as well. The festival has a scriptwriting competition which features live readings of excerpts from the finalist scripts. The next submissions deadline is September 14.
SRFF is non-profit film festival founded in 2013 by actress/filmmaker Nora Armani as a response to the proliferation of violence and violent forms of storytelling and has, as its mission, the promotion of films and filmmakers that deal with socially relevant™ film content to help promote positive social change.

Jury members, guests and advocated of SRFF include Amy Goodman of Democracy Now, Erin Brockovich, Martin Sheen, Pulitzer Prize and Tony award-winning writer Robert Schenkkan, prolific and best-selling French novelist Marc Levy, Academy Award Nominee and Emmy Award Winning filmmaker Guy Davidi, Documentary filmmaker Simon Brook, narrative filmmaker Momcilo Mrdakovic, Actresses Cynthia Gibb, Nicole Ansari, Kathryn Kates, Felicia Greenfield, TV commentator and author Gretchen Carlson, Dr. Ruchira Gupta, Ambassador Swanee Hunt and Liaison Officer of the Dalai Lama Kunga Tashi.
With close to 300 films screened from 35 countries to date, and over 30 awards presented to filmmakers from all over the world, SRFF has quickly become an important part of the New York film festival scene catering to an audience of diverse demographics.
