Dallas Queen Kennedy Davenport Heads into “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” Finals

Kennedy Davenport: A Queen Taking Off.

Well, you know those irrepressible Kennedys. And there’s not a hotter queen in Camelot than Miss Kennedy Davenport, the stage name of Dallas native Reuben Asberry Jr.

You’ll know her for her gregarious energy and wit, and perhaps best from Season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and All Stars 3.

When we encountered Kennedy at a press reception for the current contestants— resplendent in all her Vegas-meets-Vintage Patti LaBelle glory – she was among the most bubbly and friendly of all the contestants in attendance. They say everything is bigger in Texas, and Kennedy is certainly no exception.

How Did She Come to Be?

A little background: According to the RuPaul Wiki site, Kennedy Davenport is Sahara Davenport’s drag sister. She hails from the drag family of Davenports, and although she’s from the land of the Dallas Cowboys, she attended the BFA Dance program at University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

She’s also both very competitive and has a number of successes under her belt. She’s won several pageant crowns and as the site says, she’s” known for being a polished, professional queen who is well-renowned for her incredible dance numbers and lip synching skills.”

Among her titles: Miss Diamond Diva 2012, Miss Georgia, and she’s a former Miss South Central States in 2011, Miss and has won Female Impersonator of the Year, as well as Miss Gay Treasure Coast, Miss Parliament House, Miss Revolution, Miss Glamorous, Miss Tampa Bay International. Miss Black Pearl, Miss Gay Bor City, Miss Black Texas, Miss Metro, Miss Queen of Illusions, Miss Brick,Miss Azucar, Mr Azucar and Miss Gay Black US of A back in 2008.

The site says her name was given by her drag mother, Kelexis Davenport, who thought that Kennedy made a traffic unisex name and appealed to different audiences. Davenport came from Divine’s role as Dawn Davenport in Female Trouble.

RuPaul has had a lot of fun with her name as well, often introducing her as “Newark, Laguardia, Kennedy Davenport” —a comic reference to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City with the other two being names of airports in New Jersey and Queens respectively.

Metroespresso Exclusive Interview with Kennedy Davenport.

We asked her whether she believed it was better to win the competition on her own merits, or simply hang on while the other queens around her fell like dominoes. Here’s her reply:
