LA Philharmonic

A spectacular venue. An unforgettable event, and the opportunity of a lifetime converge with the Centennial season of the LA Philharmonic.

The orchestra, under the vibrant leadership of Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, presents an inspiring array of music from all genres for its Centennial season at L.A.’s iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall. Here’s an opportunity to join the LA Phil as they celebrate the diversity of Los Angeles and its inhabitants with 2 exciting kickoff events.

During opening week, Walt Disney Concert Hall will take the spotlight — almost literally — in Walt Disney Concert Hall WDCH Dreams. The immersive experience has been created by media artist Refik Anadol and tells the story of the venerated orchestra using light, data, and machine intelligence to project images on to the Hall’s steel skin.

At the center of this season’s opener is Celebrate LA, a free, day-long celebration in which the philharmonic’s two homes will be connected by CicLAvia, LA’s own open-street festival. The massive extravaganza ends with a free concert at the Hollywood Bowl featuring Gustavo Dudamel, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and a roster of what the orchestra will only describe as an assortment of very special guests. Patrons are invited to come enjoy the art, music, and food that celebrates the diversity of Los Angeles in every way possible.

The orchestra’s tribute to its home base continues with LA Fest, a festival in which they turn their attentions to the city that has been their inspiration for the past 100 years. This centennial season offers a wide array of leading artists from the world of music and beyond who continue to distinguish the LA Philharmonic as one of the most forward-facing and progressive orchestras in the world.

So far, their all-star lineup includes: Gustavo Dudamel, Audra McDonald, Bernadette Peters, Moby, Herbie Hancock, Benjamin Millepied, with more guests promised as the season continues to unfold. In addition, some 50 new works have been commissioned to celebrate the centennial, including artists and performers alike. Among the announced contributors are John Adams, Yuval Sharon, Julia Adolphe, Unsuk Chin, and Kamasi Washington.
