Anthony M. Brown, Esq. - Anthony currently is a senior associate with the law firm of Chianese & Reilly Law, P.C., heading their LGBT Family and Estates Law division serving married and unmarried individuals, couples and families in Manhattan and on Long Island. Anthony is the Board Chairman of Men Having Babies, a non-profit organization created to assist gay men looking to create families through surrogacy with educational and financial assistance. Anthony was the Executive Director of The Wedding Party and was a Board member since its inception in 1999. The Wedding Party was a non-profit educational organization that educated the public about marriage and its importance to all citizens through outreach programs and strategic media placement. Anthony is the founder of TimeForFamilies.com, a web environment dedicated to assisting gay and lesbian couples create their own families. Anthony is also a legal consultant for Family By Design, a co-parenting information and matching website.

Anthony worked as a legal intern for Lambda Legal in the summer of 2002. While there he helped to prepare briefing for the landmark case of Lawrence v. Texas and his research was quoted specifically in Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's concurring opinion. Anthony also worked as a law guardian at The Children’s Law Center, representing the legal needs of children in Brooklyn Family Court. Anthony graduated from Brooklyn Law School, where he served as research assistant to Nan Hunter, the founder of The Gay and Lesbian Project at the ACLU. Anthony is a member of The Family Law Institute of the National Gay and Lesbian Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the New York County Lawyers Association and the committee for assisted reproduction of the American Bar Association. Anthony and his husband were the subjects of CNN's, "In America, Gary and Tony Have a Baby," a 2010 documentary about their journey of having a child through surrogacy.

PREVENTION PROGRAMS

A key strategy in helping families and communities to thrive is child abuse prevention. Children's Bureau offers innovative, quality child abuse prevention programs designed to nurture the child, strengthen the family and build caring communities. Children's Bureau is the largest investor in child abuse prevention in the country and is developing a national model to transform an entire at-risk community through its Magnolia Community Initiative.

TREATMENT PROGRAMS

We respond to the immediate needs of a child in danger through our family foster care and adoptions program, matching hundreds of children each year with loving, nurturing families. We also provide mental health therapy and other related services to thousands of children and their families who have experienced abuse or are at risk of abuse.

TRAINING PROGRAMS

Children's Bureau provides training and technical support to other organizations statewide and beyond. NuParent and Strategies are two such child abuse prevention programs, each with its own unique approach to helping strengthen families and build caring communities.

RESEARCH & EVALUATION PROGRAMS

The ChildStrength program was established to promote organizational learning and build organizational capacity to use research and evaluation findings to inform and improve practice. Research and evaluation activities are conducted to monitor program effectiveness in improving child, parent, family, and community outcomes and building protective factors shown to reduce child abuse and neglect.

ADVOCACY PROGRAMS

Our advocacy efforts focus on promoting investment in the early years. Nationally, we're working to promote replication of the Magnolia Community Initiative framework via the Belong Campaign aimed at inviting other communities to create their own Belong Community. New replication communities will be supported by the Belong Institute, a training and advocacy center founded by Children's Bureau.

Forever Families Through Adoption, Inc. is a non-profit adoption placement agency and resource center founded by social workers and adoptive parents with the belief that every child eligible for permanent adoption, regardless of racial or ethnic background, or physical or emotional challenge, has the right to grow up in a loving, nurturing, secure, and forever home.

Inspired by our experience and many years of service in the adoption field and community, it is this agency's goal to unite children in need with their forever families and to help keep “harder to place” children out of the state system through domestic and international adoptions.

JOY S. GOLDSTEIN, LCSW, ACSW, FFTA's Executive Director, co-founder of FFTA and the adoptive mother of 3 boys, received her BSW from Syracuse University, and her MSW from Columbia University. Joy, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, has spent almost 30 years as the Social Work Supervisor and Adoption Coordinator for the Law office of Michael S. Goldstein, Esq. In that capacity, she has been responsible for the supervision of all Social Workers and administrative staff, counseled thousands of birth parents and adoptive parents, and was involved in more than 2,500 successful adoptions.

Joy is a frequent lecturer on topics such as: Relationships with Birth Parents, Both Before and After Placement, Preparing Birth Parent Letters/Profiles and Locating a Birth Parent through Ads, the Internet, and Word-of-Mouth.

MICHAEL S. GOLDSTEIN, ESQ, LCSW is an attorney,Licensed clinlical social worker, Joy's husband and a co-founder of FFTA, who has concentrated his practice for the past 30 years in adoption. Michael continues to run a law firm concentrating in all aspects of adoption and although a co-founder of FFTA he is not employed by FFTA.
