A key strategy in helping families and communities to thrive is child abuse prevention. Children's Bureau offers innovative, quality child abuse prevention programs designed to nurture the child, strengthen the family and build caring communities. Children's Bureau is the largest investor in child abuse prevention in the country and is developing a national model to transform an entire at-risk community through its Magnolia Community Initiative.
We respond to the immediate needs of a child in danger through our family foster care and adoptions program, matching hundreds of children each year with loving, nurturing families. We also provide mental health therapy and other related services to thousands of children and their families who have experienced abuse or are at risk of abuse.
Children's Bureau provides training and technical support to other organizations statewide and beyond. NuParent and Strategies are two such child abuse prevention programs, each with its own unique approach to helping strengthen families and build caring communities.
RESEARCH & EVALUATION PROGRAMS
The ChildStrength program was established to promote organizational learning and build organizational capacity to use research and evaluation findings to inform and improve practice. Research and evaluation activities are conducted to monitor program effectiveness in improving child, parent, family, and community outcomes and building protective factors shown to reduce child abuse and neglect.
Our advocacy efforts focus on promoting investment in the early years. Nationally, we're working to promote replication of the Magnolia Community Initiative framework via the Belong Campaign aimed at inviting other communities to create their own Belong Community. New replication communities will be supported by the Belong Institute, a training and advocacy center founded by Children's Bureau.
THE GREATER SHARE
The Greater Share is a social movement to prevent child abuse. By investing in a share of children's success, health, parenting and community, we are investing in the greater good of society. As an employee working in New York, you have rights. If your rights are violated, you have options for holding your employer or other parties accountable. Although it may sound relatively straightforward, the truth is that it can be difficult to assert your rights for fear of retaliation, harassment or other repercussions stemming from co-workers, managers and employers.
Some common types of employment law matters we handle include:
Tip pooling and other claims affecting restaurant workers
Failure to pay bonuses, wages, overtimes and severance
Claims affecting nannies
Discrimination and workplace harassment, including on the basis of one's disability or sexual orientation
Whistleblower claims and retaliation
Some common professions we handle cases for:
Perhaps you have been denied appropriate compensation or you inexplicably lost your job, and you suspect discrimination. If you are being treated unfairly or illegally at work, we can explain how you can hold negligent, discriminatory or abusive employers and co-workers accountable.
