When we talk to people we love, we want to know what things they’re loving. This time, Derek Bishop answers our Questions of Taste.
We spoke with Derek when he released his latest album, Bicycling in Quicksand. On Saturday, June 13, he’s playing Pianos in New York.
METROSOURCE: Where did your last great meal come from?
DEREK BISHOP: I just went to Mermaid Inn and ate at their happy hour. It was a win/win: I got great food and it was really cheap!
What music artists do you have in rotation right now?
Maybe I should go look at my iTunes and see what I was just listening to.
That’s a ballsy way to do it.
It’s the only way! OK, I’m listening to a lot of Penguin Prism, the new tracks that Brandon Flowers has released, and Stevie Nicks.
What’s your drink?
Iced tea.
Sweet or unsweet?
Unsweetened! I grew up with too much sweet tea in the South.
What else is on your radar right now that you want people to know about?
I did the first Fun Home cast recording art, I would encourage everyone to go see that now that it’s on Broadway. It’s just amazing. It’s one of those things that people hear about it and don’t know what it’s about, and that’s one of the great things about it, not knowing what you’re getting into. But the fact that it’s so funny and tragic and uplifting and depressing all at the same time is just brilliant. [Ed.: The American Theater Wing agree! This weekend, the show won five Tonys, including Best New Musical.]
