The Art of Eric Schwabel

A further look at why we put Eric Schwabel on the cover of our April/May issue.

Eric Schwabel & Amy Kaps

One of Southern California’s most sought-after young photographers, Eric Schwabel has made a name for himself by shooting celebs and commercials, and for high-end publications. His personal story fascinated us, which is why Paul Hagen profiled him for our current issue’s cover story.

But his wild, wide-ranging composed pieces are something to celebrate, so we wanted to share a few more shots we couldn’t fit in the issue, like the self-portrait above. Schwabel tells us of it, “The biggest thing I’ve noticed lately is that everything is a collaboration. I did something with Amy Kaps last year. She’s a local performance artist and just did something with Marina Abramovic.” Angelinos have a chance to see Schwabel’s work in his upcoming show “Don’t Laugh” (an exhibition of two years of shooting Alex Minsky) at WNDOspace, 361 Vernon Ave., running March 27 to April 1.
