GLAAD Media Awards Announce 2016 Nominees

GLAAD has announced the nominees for the 27th annual GLAAD Media Awards, which cover film, TV, music, publishing, and Spanish-language entries in all categories; awards ceremonies will be held on April 2 in LA and May 14 in NYC.

The announcements come as stars continue to expand on the #OscarsSoWhite conversation. Earlier this week, Ian McKellen pointed out to The Guardian that #OscarsSoStraight as well: “No openly gay man has ever won the Oscar. I wonder if that is prejudice or chance.” And Gabrielle Union said to the Associated Press: “If you don’t see yourself reflected in mainstream awards, you tend to create your own.”

Which is exactly what the the The GLAAD Media Awards have done since 1990. These awards “recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives.”
