Bob gets it.
As a drag queen, a gay man and a person of color, Bob knows that when the alt-right turned the streets of Charlottesville, Va. into a war zone last weekend and the President of the United States offered only a tepid condemnation, those comments put everyone who isn’t white, straight, conservative and Christian in jeopardy.
When 45 (as those who loathe putting the words “president” and “Trump” together in the same sentence call him) turned a news conference Tuesday into a claim that there were good people who only wanted to preserve American history by keeping a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee up in public, Bob the Drag Queen said enough. (For the record, those marchers referred to as “good people” were videotaped last Friday night chanting such slogans as “Jews will not replace us,” and an old Nazi favorite, “blood and soil!”)
But Bob’s weapon is not a billy club, brass knuckles or plowing a car into a crowd. Bob fights his battles with wit and humor. “I won’t read Donald Trump,” said the season 8 winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race. last night. “I only read friends.”
