Last week, the question was indoors or out? But there’s a big thaw taking place this week, sending LGBT revelers scrambling around the country. Here’s what’s hot:
Washington D.C. will be ground zero for the leather community this weekend, as the city plays host to Mid-Atlantic Leather January 12-15. Leather-clad dads, lads, masters and subs will all be on hand to crown a new Mr. Mid-Atlantic Leather 2018 during 48 hours of fun that features a Former MAL Bar night, the Highway TNT Dance Party and a Sunday brunch.
Closer to home January 12, Tim Dunn, gay comedy’s daddy bear, takes a break from hibernation to welcome LGBTQ performers from across the spectrum to his magical kingdom of funny delights for Queerball at the UCB East Theater. Witness musical comedy, stand-up, contortionism, improv and drag, and, if you’re feeling brave, you can join Dunn onstage for a wild time of your own.
Friday sees some of the show’s top acts to returning for “The Best of Queerball.” Look out for bonkers gigs from favorites like Dave Mizzoni, Chloe Marsh, Shane O’Neill, Nikki Palumbo, Gwynna Forgham-Thrift, Caitlin Bitzegaio, Carly Ann Filbin, Sophie Santos and Griffin Leeds.
If you’re feeling adventurous, the slopes are alive January 14-21 with the sound of music from the opening night party of Aspen Gay Ski Week at Hotel Jerome through the Saturday night swimsuit pool party sponsored by Fabulous Las Vegas. For the 41st Anniversary of the event, the town will roll out the pink carpet with hot tub parties, cocktail receptions, a costume party and a little something called Belly Up Aspen, a highly anticipated Friday night party featuring performances by Drag Race stars Alaska, Ginger Minj, Katya and Shangela.
Or you could hang with a celebrity right here in town on Sunday, as January 14, one of the city’s hottest dance events just gets a little hotter, courtesy of screen goddess and party galpal Lindsay Lohan, who will be the special guest host this weekend at SuperTrade. Deejays Dani Torio and Jared Conner will be spinning at an event billed as 10 p.m. until “late.”
Come as you are and hang with the stars as the city that never sleeps makes sure you have a memorable Dr. King holiday weekend. As an actress, Lohan is best known for work in such films as Mean Girls, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and Freaky Friday. Lohan also has an album (Speak) and her own fashion line. And, she’ll have it known, LiLo has long been a strong supporter of LGBTQ rights.
And if you thought that Aspen was your only opportunity to play in the powder with your gay brothers and sisters, think again. January 17 kicks off Winter Rendezvous, the annual LGBTQ pride celebration in Stowe, Vermont which coincides with Stowe’s Winter Carnival Festival. The event attracts hundreds of LGBTQ skiers, riders and winter enthusiasts to the sublimely cozy and picturesque village of Stowe for five days of wintry bliss. Participants can experience a diverse lineup of activities and entertainment. Including Miss Coco Peru, Julie Goldman, DJ Steve Sidewalk and more.
