Worldwide bowling entertainment leader Bowlero Corporation (formerly Bowlmor AMF) is currently hosting the #BeBowled: Shoe Design challenge, running now through April 16.

Before we get to the shoes, it’s worth noting that Bowlero has been a leader in revamping the bowling experience — combining the iconic American pastime with unique dining experiences, interactive arcades, and nightlife at over 300 locations nationwide (and in Mexico and Canada), proclaiming themselves as the “lovechild” of dining, bowling, and clubbing.

One thing that has not been changed — so far — are the classic, clown-like red-and-blue with white laces shoe design.

“Bowling is the ultimate American pastime and the shoes that go along with it are iconic, but outdated,” Colie Edison, Chief Customer Officer for Bowlero Corp., said in a statement.

Here’s where #BeBowled and fashion design comes rolling in. Aspiring designers ages 18 and older will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show off their creative and design skills to recreate the new American bowling shoe. From now until April 16, contestants can submit their best work to bowlerocorp.com/designourshoes, with no limit to the number of submissions per contestant.

After the submission window closes, five finalists will then be chosen to fly out to New York City for a fashion show on the lanes at Bowlmor’s Times Square flagship location.

The winner — to be announced at the event — will receive not only a grand prize of $2,500 cash but will also establish a legacy for having revolutionizing the traditional bowling shoe. Their shoe will be professionally designed, produced, and distributed to more than 75 Bowlero and Bowlmor locations nationwide in 2019.

“This contest will inspire designers to reinvent the bowling shoe just like Bowlero has reinvented the bowling business,” Edison continued in a statement. “We can’t wait to see all of the bold new shoe designs!”
