Not So Churchy
The Not So Churchy worshipping community is intimate, portable, and spiritually curious and committed. We worship monthly and gather for education, spirituality groups, service and community events.
We thrive when we are connected, but not too connected, to the traditional church. We are artists, community activists, and musicians. We are adults and kids.
We are lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and straight allies. We bring all of ourselves, the stuff we like and the stuff we aren’t so sure of.
There is always laughter
You might feel calmer leaving than you did coming in
Each gathering is a little bit different, created with care and for the moment
There is space for change, room to grow, and an experience that's Not So Churchy.
The Premier Officiant for Your Perfect New York City Wedding
Peter Boruchowitz registered wedding officiant, ordained clergyman, secular celebrant
Your perfect wedding starts with your perfect ceremony. It's traditional or modern, spiritual or secular, short & sweet, or a reflection of your cultures. Or mix and match! You can have exactly what you want, and it will always be memorable, meaningful and respectful of your values.
As your officiant, I will create a Wedding Ceremony that reflects your relationship, as you define it. I am passionate that each Wedding Ceremony is as distinctive as each couple. Therefore, should you choose, I welcome your participation in preparing your ceremony. Whether you write your own vows or select from my diverse library of spiritual and civil ceremonies, I will compose all those feelings that are often difficult to express in words into a pronouncement of love that will be spoken on your wedding day.
Read my reviews to see what other couples say about my officiant services. Call or email me to find out if I'm available on your wedding day. Then, tell me your love story, and I will create and perform a marriage ceremony that will be the heart of your wedding day.
Whether you choose an intimate ceremony in a New York City park, a candle-lit house of worship filled with family and friends, a grand wedding at your reception venue with hundreds of guests, or a private ceremony at your home, let me share in your hopes and dreams and make your day the best it can be.

St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church has existed on Christopher Street in Greenwich Village since 1855. Although Germans settled mainly in the area east of the Bowery, there was a community in Greenwich Village which existed until the end of World War I. The Federal-style building with a domed cupola, built in 1821–22 for the Eighth Presbyterian Church, is one of the oldest religious buildings in Greenwich Village. In 1842, the property was sold to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, who worshiped here until 1855 when it was turned over to the German Lutherans. Victorian features were added in 1886 by Berg & Clark, and the pediment was inscribed, "Deutsche Evangelish-Lutherische St. Johannes Kirche." St. John's is within the Greenwich Village Historic District of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission.

The Riverside Church is an interdenominational, interracial, international, open, welcoming, and affirming church and congregation.
Exactly one year before his April 4, 1968 assassination, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stood in The Riverside Church to deliver his Beyond Vietnam address against the sins of poverty, racism, and militarism. Confronted by the fierce urgency of now, The Riverside Church is launching Beyond the Dream: Living King's Legacy, a year of education and action to call us toward a more just and peaceful society.
