Sugarloaf Mountain Is the Cherry On Top of Rio

It’s an awe-inspiring sight to see Sugarloaf mountain jutting straight out of the ocean. Having just been to the Olympics in Rio, I knew this would be something memorable to cap off the trip. It didn’t dissapoint.

Because the shape vaguely resembles the conical packaging that the Portugeuse used to sell sugar to traders at port, the mountain was named Sugarloaf. A tram from the mountain has been in operation since 1912, and was redesigned in the early ’70s.

Obviously it’s one of the most recognized natural landmarks in the world and offers a stunning panoramic view of Rio. It’s actually hard to take a bad photo from any angle, and Hollywood seems to know that, since everything from Bette Davis Now Voyager to Roger Moore’s James Bond flick Moonraker have shot footage here to add drama and flair.
