It will include largely unseen early works by the American photographer, who is known for photographing marginalized people. The exhibition will focus on seven key years (1956-1962) that represent a crucial period of the artist’s genesis when she developed her idiosyncratic style, setting the tone for a daring and bold career. Roughly half of the photographs Arbus printed in her lifetime were made during these pivotal years, many of which were undiscovered in her basement darkroom in NYC’s Greenwich Village. The photographer’s daughters donated the archive to the Met. metmuseum.org
