Tonight on CBS Evening News, Dr. Jon LaPook, chief medical correspondent, interviews Landon Wilson, who was kicked out of the U.S. Navy for being transgender.
Wilson transitioned from female to male while serving. While the 2011 repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell was seen as an important LGBT victory, tonight’s segment will show it wasn’t a complete one. Dr. LaPook explains the military’s continued power to ban transgender soldiers and sailors from service “is based on military medical regulations that are not in sync with current thinking and clinical practice of the American Psychiatric Association.”
The segment airs tonight, March 17, on CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley beginning at 6:30pm Eastern Time.
