These Are the Best Tips for Dealing with a Hangover

Don’t want everyone to know you stayed out past curfew? Take our advice for smooth sailing the morning after you have indulged.

Before Bed

  • Aim to drink 8 ounces of water for every glass of beer or wine you had (or every shot of liquor in your mixed drinks); it will help dilute the toxins and rehydrate you.
  • Eat! Even if it’s stretching your calorie count for the day, it’s better to have a bite of something rather than go to bed with nothing but alcohol sloshing around in your stomach.
  • You may be craving time to unwind, but turn off that late-night TV in order to get as much sleep as possible. Every minute helps.

    The Next Morning

  • Skip the coffee and pour yourself a big glass of orange juice. Your body needs fuel to recover — not stimulants on top of depressants.
  • Have a breakfast fit for a lumberjack. As Cameron Diaz once said, “Grease is the only cure for a hangover.”
  • Shock yourself awake with a refreshing cold shower. It will replace the get-up-and-go you usually get from coffee and wash off the smell of the alcohol you’ve been sweating out of your system all night long.
