Heidelberg: More Than a Sausage Fest

One of Germany’s most picturesque locales and home to the university that bears its name, Heidelberg is a town with centuries of beauty – both natural and man-made – and enough history to keep you entranced throughout your stay.

You’ll want to make a special trip around seeing Heidelberg Castle, built in 1214 and renowned as one of the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps.

Heidelberg is nestled close to the Neckar River in Southwestern Germany. Part of the charms are those that will fill your ears from the sounds of locals moving along the cobblestone streets; or you may be distracted by the patchwork German landscape, where buildings have crumbled or destroyed, then been rebuilt out of their own ruins.

Enjoy new highlights of travel photographer Edwin Santiago’s journeys each week.
