Just When You've Seen All the Sights and Sites in New York City . . .

There are two places in New York City that I’ve loved pulling through my camera lens. Both to me are unforgettable, and once you have a look at these images, I hope they convey some sense of what they mean to me.

Eataly is one of them and the other is the new section of the World Trade Center. Obviously they couldn’t be more different, but each one says something to me about New York that nothing else quite does. They’re familiar sights to the locals of Manhattan and the people who frequently visit the city – and I have no doubt that many know a great deal more about them than I do. It’s an easy confession to make.

I love Eataly simply because it seems impossible to me than any place other than New York would have manifested it, and time after time I’ve recommeded it to friends looking to visit who have found it to be just as special as I do. When was in town not long ago, I ran into my friend David Burka and his husband Neil Patrick Harris. I know this is common for a lot of city-dwellers (and it happens occasionally in LA as well), but such random encounters can do so much to enrich your experience.

There are so many renowned places in and around Manhattan – the Statue of Liberty, the Chrysler and Empire State buildings, Lincoln Center, and lesser-known landmarks like the High Line and the Flatiron building, which is arguably one of the Big Apple’s first real skyscrapers (even though it’s long been dwarfed by the buildings surrounding it.) But my camera’s eye follows my heart, and these places resonate for me like none other.
