My name is Kevin and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist. As a highly skilled and trained therapist, I work with individuals, couples, and groups, taking a collaborative approach to the treatment of anxiety, depression, substance use/misuse, and overall relationship issues. In addition, I have a special interest in working with the LGBT community. My approach draws upon Motivational, Psychodynamic and Interpersonal traditions. Subsequently, I believe what makes therapy most effective is the relational fit between the therapist and the client. I would describe myself as having an integrative approach, which varies and adapts to your unique needs, strengths, and goals for your therapy. I obtained my Masters in Clinical Social Work from Columbia University in 2006. My undergraduate degree is from the University of California, Berkeley, where I studied Psychology. I have completed several post-graduate training programs including a psychodynamic/analytic program at The Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and a group psychotherapy training program from The Eastern Group Psychotherapy Society (EGPS). I have also had additional training in Motivational Enhancement Therapy and Integrative Harm Reduction Psychotherapy. I am a member of both the National Association of Social Workers and the American Group Psychotherapy Association.
LGBT Issues
Psychotherapy is an invaluable tool for LGBTQ-identified people. Affirmative therapy can help you improve your relationship with others and with yourself. My approach is extremely sensitive to the social stigma, and homo/bi/trans-phobia, that permeate our society and often complicate the life of those who so identify.
My practice has helped people with the coming-out process, medical and sexual health and behavior, and overall increasing of self-worth from the shame, judgment, and stigma that can sometimes plague the community.
Alcohol and Drug Abuse
I work closely with both the person currently using/abusing drugs and alcohol, and the people whom are impacted by their loved one’s use. One size doesn’t fit all. Are you looking to abstain from all drugs and alcohol? Great. I can assist you with that. Are you looking to cut back your current use of alcohol, to eliminate the problems it’s creating in your life? Excellent. I can also help you figure that out.
I offer a self-empowering, comprehensive, and individualized approach, utilizing Integrative Harm Reduction and Motivational Enhancement Therapies.
Depression & Anxiety
Most people feel anxious or depressed at times. Going through a loss, changing jobs, divorce, or other difficult situations can lead a person to feel sad, lonely, scared, or nervous. These are normal reactions to life’s many stressors. However, you may feel you experience these feelings more often, even daily, and for no apparent reason. You may find that these feelings are making it more difficult to function in your daily life. If so, it may be time to seek a professional to explore your options for potential treatment. Both of these disorders are highly treatable, either alone or together.
My approach to treatment is specifically tailored to each of my clients, however, my treatment ‘lens’ is through a focused, integrated approach of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness Based Psychotherapies.

I love food, the happiness it brings and the beauty that I create with it. My specialty is to find out from clients what they want their guests to taste food-wise, create those flavors and make the food look tantalizing. I do this by paying attention to the details regarding how the food is prepared and displayed all the while watching the budget. My clients and their guests are thrilled with the experience and the service that goes with it. I am grateful for many loyal clients and look forward to meeting new clients. Warm regards, Michael Brooks Owner Bread & Butter Catering, Inc.

BHMS offers each student a distinctive educational experience: the opportunity to work at an individual pace and pursue personal interests and, at the same time, to collaborate, learn from, and teach others, to be a productive, active part of a community.
At BHMS students learn reading, writing, and mathematics skills while focusing on understanding the process of discovery. Our students thrive in an environment that is supportive of individual learning styles and alleviates undue pressure by giving them the freedom to learn at their own pace. They develop critical thinking skills by actively conceptualizing, analyzing, and evaluating information through observation, experience, reflection, reasoning and communication.
Montessori is a worldwide proven educational philosophy that supports every child's exploration and self-discovery, encouraging students to be active rather than passive learners.
Above all else, BHMS emphasizes that our community depends on each of us: teachers, parents, students. Respect for self and others, respect for the community and environment, and respect for diversity provide the foundation for our students' strong sense of compassion, empathy, and the responsibilities inherent as a global citizen.
Unique Elements of a BHMS Education
Mixed-age classes - Guided by the teacher, students learn from and teach each other. Students develop collaboration and leadership skills, compassion and mastery of the material.
Three-year cycle - Teachers gain an intimate knowledge of each student's individual learning style and potential. A spiraling curriculum develops a deeper understanding of academic subjects.
Prepared environment – Students have choice within a carefully designed environment. A structure that develops independent problem solving skills by allowing students time to explore, discover, concentrate, research and learn at their own pace. Teachers monitor each student's progress, helping them make choices that support learning and exploration of all academic subjects.
Montessori materials – Self-correcting, hands-on materials designed to develop a students independence, self-confidence, and depth of knowledge through tactile experiences.
Intrinsic Motivation – Students work towards their own goals, satisfaction, and interest and not for external rewards. Motivation is increased through the student's natural curiosity in their individual pursuits and goals.
Preschool - 8th Grade – A PS-8 education provides an emotionally safe environment for adolescents to build self-confidence and leadership skills. By the 8th grade students' interests and learning styles are more defined. Their involvement in the selection process results in a greater commitment to their high school education.
Research shows that attending a Montessori program can predict significantly higher mathematics and science standardized test scores in high school. A research study was conducted by the Association Montessori Internationale on the performance of Montessori students when they transition to more conventional academic environments. A significant finding of this study is the association between a Montessori education and superior performance in Math and Science. The full study can be found on our Parent Resources page: Research Study: Outcomes for Montessori Students.
