Multiple Cultures Come Together in Seville

I was driving from Malaga to Portugal when I decided to stop into Seville for a few hours to see what I expected would be a quaint town. Imagine my surprise.

Seville is one of the less popular towns among American visitors to Spain, but something that I recalled being discussed in class when we were studying European history. So I thought, why not take a few hours to explore and shoot?
I was shocked to learn that this is actually a very progressive little corner of the world, and has much more to offer than a few quaint cafes and souvenir shops.

Seville (or as locals call it, Sevilla), is the capital and the largest city of Andalusía and the province of Seville Spain. With its Roman heritage, Seville is home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Cathedral, Alcázar and Archivo de Indias in Seville are all phenomenal places to visit that can take multiple days to explore.

Don’t forget to visit the Giralda minaret, a picturesue masterpiece of Almohad architecture.
It stands next to the cathedral that houses the tomb of Christopher Columbus. Seville is also bursting with antique charm. You can walk for hours and get lost in the massive complexes that provide a stunning collage of architectural styles from the town’s numerous cultural influences.

My three-hour stopover quickly became a three-day visit, and I ended up skipping Portugal altogether. There’s a cluster of shopping malls in Seville offering unique brands. There are also an endless choice of great restaurants and cafes. At night, there are a few gay bars that is worth a visit.

Lesson to visitors: Make room in your schedule for a few days here, and bring an open mind. There’s so much to see and do, you’re going to need a lot of time to explore.
