Picnic without Prejudice in Prospect Park

This year’s Brooklyn Queer Picnic takes place Saturday May 27, from 1–5 p.m. in New York.

It’s part picnic and part social statement. Participants are encouraged bring what they can to contribute: a favorite snack or drink, a picnic blanket, or napkins and disposable cups and plates. “And,” say the organizers, “by all means bring friends and lovers!”

Attendees are advised to pick out a space at 1 p.m. in the Long Meadow near the Picnic House. The 5 p.m. end time is merely a suggestion, they add. “We’ll go as late as people stick around.”

Other suggestions include being proactive about asking for pronouns, not assuming anyone’s gender, and they remind picnickers that open containers of alcohol are still illegal in the park so if you drink, be mindful of putting people at risk of police interaction.
