Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, the second annual Truth Awards Gala and Dinner will be presented in LA on Saturday, March 5, 2016, to recognize and honor members and allies of the black LGBTQ community.
The black-tie affair will once more benefit The DIVA Foundation and Better Brothers Los Angeles. Both organizations work towards a healthy black community, namely one free of shame and stigma, where its members are recognized as equal and rightful members of society. A key component of their joint mission is to fight to end HIV/AIDS.
The noted singer (and Broadway’s Dreamgirls‘ original Deena!) Sheryl Lee Ralph, founder of The DIVA Foundation, explains the gala: “It’s important that we uplift and recognize the accomplishments of African Americans in the LGBTQ community, who are living their lives unabashedly out loud and openly for all the world to see. Hopefully, by celebrating the courage of these gay, lesbian and transgendered individuals, we will encourage, inspire and motivate others to live their truth.”
And while Sheryl Lee Ralph is reason enough to put on your black tie for the evening, she will be joined by hosts Omarosa Manigault (The Apprentice) and Karamo Brown (host of “The OWN Show” on Oprah.com and housemate on MTV’s The Real World: Philadelphia), and Grammy-nominated singer and LGBT activist Frenchie Davis. Tickets range from $150 for general admission to $250 for premiere seating and are available here. The awards will be held at the Taglyan Cultural Complex, located at 1201 Vine Street in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 5, 2016.
