Roughly two to two and half hours from Los Angeles are two places worth a visit: Palm Springs and Joshua Tree National Park, a national park renowned for its beautiful golden red rock formations and desert landscapes. The ideal time to visit is January thru April and September thru December. Summers in Palm Springs can be excruciatingly hot.
