Take off Those Mouse Ears and Explore Anaheim

Sure, it’s the home of Disneyland. But if you happen to be in Southern California for any reason at all, you should definitely try visiting Anaheim Packing District in downtown Anaheim.

What used to be the Packard Building and former a car showroom is now a conglomerate of 20-plus artisan eateries offering a creative and delicious cuisine worthy of an Instagram post – and on weekends, they showcase live music on the Mezzanine Stage.

The Packard Building is a preserved historic commercial building surrounded by new California-style developments. Thanks to this refreshing concept, the Packard Building and the Citrus Packing House are enjoyed by many, quickly becoming the jewels of downtown Anaheim. Designed for mission revival work, the building was built in 1925 and created with an open and light-filled interior typical of car showrooms. After decades of various automobile uses and miscellaneous modifications, the Packard Building has been restored to its original 1920s glory. The Packard Building is now also home to the Anaheim Brewery and Umami Burger.

I’ve driven in Southern California’s traffic from my home in West Hollywood to meet friends here and have tried several of the offerings. To name a few noteworthy restaurants in the complex are Adya, offering delicious Indian cuisine, Ecco-Pizza, Crepe Coop, Hammer Bar, Hans’ Homemade and Kroft. What’s more, diners are enjoying the new communal gathering set up with its hip atmosphere, energetic vibe and a decidedly cool ambience.
