Try "The Brain Fog Fix" When Feeling Foggy Inside

There’s an epidemic spreading across the nation. Some call it a “brain fog” or “feeling scatterbrained.”

By Jeffrey James Keyes

Others have diagnosed it as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). And while many head to the pharmacy in search of solutions, Dr. Mike Dow (pictured below) aims to help people with a new book called The Brain Fog Fix.

It offers a three-week program designed to help naturally restore three of the brain’s most crucial chemicals (serotonin, dopamine, and cortisol). This rebalances the brain’s chemistry to address symptoms such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, dementia and insomnia. Dow believes the nature of modern life helps create these conditions: the way we eat, the changing nature of our relationships, and the lack of spiritual practices. More Americans live alone now than at any time in history. We sit more, walk less and take more medication. “Research shows being constantly tethered to tweet on your iPhone actually make people less content, less productive, and less present,” explains Dow.

Dow has devised a series of three, weeklong lifestyle challenges intended to offset these symptoms. Week one, the “mood revolution,” focuses on breaking negative dietary patterns to help you feel revitalized and energetic. Week Two, the “energy revolution,” helps you use sleep and exercise to go from feeling scattered to mentally sharp. Finally, during week three, the “spirit revolution” helps you connect to something larger than yourself and discover your joy in life.

Dr. Mike Dow

Dow offers in-depth discussions about the relationship between food and mood — even including a selection of feel-good recipes. He opposes “gunk that clogs up your brain” — including anti-anxiety meds, antidepressants, sleeping pills, stimulants, and antipsychotics, and he suggests ways to reduce exposure to toxins from cookware, drinking water, and cleaning supplies. Instead, he advocates taking breaks from the digital world to focus on making real life connections, since loneliness is statitically twice as deadly as obesity.

Dow has a Master’s Degree in marriage and family therapy and a Doctorate in Psychology. You can see him on E!’s Sex with Brody, VH1’s Couples Therapy, My Strange Criminal Addiction on Investigation Discovery, Freaky Eaters on TLC, and My Life with LaToya on OWN. The Brain Fog Fix is published by Hay House. Learn more at drmikedow.com.
