Who’s Crushing on Adam Rippon, Rupert Everett Runs Wilde, and a Frat Falls Flat

Adam Rippon continues to plunder and pillage his way through the hearts of every Earthling ever, Rupert Everett as Oscar Wilde and a frat falls flat.

Every year, Time magazine turns its pages over to a wide assortment of celebrities who in turn do what celebrities do best: talk about other celebrities. The new issue features Sir Elton John profiling the soon-to-be-wed Prince Harry, SNL’s Leslie Jones gushes about diminutive designer Christian Siriano and Rosie O’Donnell scatters a few figurative petals at the feet of Roseanne Barr.

Small surprise then that this Time out, Adam Rippon made the cut, and who did the editors enlist to wax rhapsodic about the skating sensation but … Cher. True to form, the former Mrs. Bono goes right for the heartstrings. Here’s what she wrote:

“All figure skaters are beautiful, but Adam Rippon is different. He isn’t just a beautiful skater. He has humility, grace and an incredible sense of humor.

You could see in the leather-harness suit he wore to the Academy Awards that he isn’t afraid to take chances. It wasn’t about the suit, really. It was about the fact that he dares to be different in a world where being different always comes with a cost. I thought it was fabulous, of course.

Adam is a skater who happens to be gay, and that represents something wonderful to young people. When I was young, I had no role models—everyone looked like Sandra Dee and Doris Day. There was nobody who made me think, Oh, I could be like them. They represent me. Adam shows people that if you put blood, sweat and tears into what you’re doing, you can achieve something that’s special. You can be special. And I think that’s very brave.”

Into the Wilde

Call it vanity project or the best possible way to bring a cornerstone LGBT founding father to the screen, but Rupert Everett’s Oscar Wilde biopic, The Happy Prince, had its trailer released today. Everett wrote, directed and start in the film which overlaps somewhat with the David Hare play “The Judas Kiss,” which put Everett on stage as the larger-than-life Wilde recently in New York. Notices for early screenings of the film at festivals have been mixed; some remarking that Everett’s work often appears visually derivative, while others suggest that his performance digs more deeply into what made Wilde a much-loathed legend in his own time than any other portrayal to date.

Take a look:

Wild Boys

Syracuse University has suspended the Theta Tau fraternity after a video surfaced on their Facebook of members performing a ritual that the university has condemned as “extremely racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic, sexist, and hostile to people with disabilities.” The video was uncovered by the school paper, The Daily Orange.

Among the videos is one depicting students from the fraternity reciting an oath: “I solemnly swear to always have hatred in my heart for n*****s, sp*cs and most importantly, the fucking k*kes.”

But the video gets cringe-worthy long before that, as one of the frat boys volunteers without any prodding, “F*ck black people, and fu•ck sp*cs. Amen.”

The video was among several discovered uploaded to a Facebook group called “Tau of Theta Tau.”

According to reports in The Daily Orange, another video features one of the members suggesting he and his rent-a-friend buddies all “get together and (talk) about their significant others while drinking different wines and talking in gay girly accents.”
