Allegiance, premiering this fall at the Longacre Theatre, is a semi-autobiographical musical based on the real life of George Takei — iconic member of the original Star Trek cast, breakout social media quipster, and outspoken LGBT rights activist.
In his Broadway debut, Takei plays Sam Kimura, who looks back on his experience in the Japanese-American internment camps during World War II. Allegiance also stars Telly Leung as Kimura’s younger self, and Tony Award winner Lea Salonga (pictured) in the role of his sister Kei. The show is directed by Stafford Arima, whose father was also among the estimated 120,000 Japanese interned during this period. allegiancemusical.com
