BOOK: “Party of One: A Memoir in 21 Songs” by Dave Holmes

Lots of people write. Not all can do so with the wit and insight that Dave Holmes exhibits in his book, Party Of One: A Memoir in 21 Songs (Crown Archetype; $26.00).

Holmes’ nimble text brims with smart asides and creative ideas – like using music from his formative years to illustrate milestones along his journey, including coming out of the closet and becoming one of MTV’s last VJs (though these days he makes his living as a writer for sites like Esquire and Vulture). Holmes steers his tale from awkward to poignant and back again.
