Harvey Wants to Know: What is the Question, Metrosource?

Written by | Entertainment, Stage

I had the occasion to work with Harvey Fierstein on one of the worst movies ever made — a 1995 lead balloon known as Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde.

I was the unit publicist and Harvey had a bit role as one of many who fell prey to Ms. Hyde’s murderous charms. In the movie (which earned ratings of 14% approval on Rotten Tomatoes and 4.4/10 from IMDB), the squeaky clean Tim Daley turns into a very evil Sean Young. Oy, as Harvey would say. We caught up a few days ago at the press greeting for a brand-new staging of his masterwork as a playwright, Torch Song (formerly Torch Song Trilogy) and had a laugh at our experience on the film and chatted about how RuPaul’s Drag Race has made sissying that walk so much more mainstream than it was when he wrote his Tony-winning play.
