This Is Why You Should Honeymoon in Antigua

Weddings can be hectic. So consider a honeymoon destination where you can really unwind. Blue Waters Resort & Spa in Antigua is an idyllic island paradise. It’s also known as “Waladdli” or “Wadadli” by the locals. Antigua is situated in the West Indies on the main island of the country of Antigua and Barbuda. Britain once called it the “Gateway to the Caribbean.” Prince Harry even visited Blue Waters while marking the 35th Anniversary of the Independence of Antigua and Barbuda.

Why You’d Rather Be Blue

Blue Waters is situated on the Northwest corner of the island. It’s roughly four miles from the capital of St. John and five miles from the airport. The resort features cozy coves, lush tropical gardens, nine freshwater pools and sweeping views of the sea.

Honeymooners at Blue Waters are frequently upgraded to Deluxe Beachfront rooms. There, you can indulge in breakfast served on a private patio or balcony. The “Blue Waters Honeymoon Wishes Registry” lets couples register for adventures (island tours, sailing excursions, horseback riding, scuba diving). What’s more, you can also register for luxury (romantic dinners, room upgrades, or treatments like the spa’s “Togetherness Massage”).

The property’s Cove Suites offer Caribbean luxury to the max. Since they’re situated just off of the main resort, the suites give couples added privacy. Another secluded option is Rock Cottage. It’s located on the opposite side of the resort near Soldier’s Bay. If available, this desirable slice of heaven is the idyllic place to kick off your honeymoon in style. And be sure to Instagram a few romantic pictures at the old Sugar Mill around the corner from the decadent Cove Restaurant.

Out and Back Again

If you’re heading off property, Nelson’s Dockyard on the English Harbour is a great way to start. This natural harbor is a former British Naval base on the south side of the island. Stroll to the top of Shirley Heights and scope out the view from the restored military lookout. For something outside the box, check out Stingray City Antigua Snorkel Adventure. There, you and your new spouse can snuggle up to a Southern Ray over a glass of Rum Punch.

Back at Blue Waters, the party picks up as the sun sets. Catch nightly steel band performers and sensational musicians in the Pelican Bar or Palm Restaurant. Or you can simply stargaze over a nightcap.

Wake in the morning and take a dip in a private pool. You can also cool off mingling with other honeymooners at the adults-only pool by Pelican House. And you can scope out sunseekers at the beachfront pool down by Veronica’s Bar. Before leaving, take a romantic walk, and say goodbye to paradise in the tiny gazebo — sunkissed, relaxed and happily newly wed. bluewaters.net
