If Dr. Frank-N-Furter is going to be played by someone as fabulous as Laverne Cox, then Frank-N-Furter will need an equally fabulous victim to, ahem, have for dinner. Enter Adam Lambert.
UPDATED JANUARY 15: Well this just keeps getting better, doesn’t it? Tim Curry—who of course originated the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter not only in the 1975 movie, but in the original 1973 stage show at London’s Royal Court’s Theatre Upstairs—has just signed on to join Fox’s remake as the Narrator:
So now we’ve got Tim Curry, Laverne Cox, and Adam Lambert (story below) in place. The time to stock up on your rice and Scott-brand toilet paper is now, people. (Even if the show airs on a date TBA this fall. But as the song tells us, time is fleeting…)
FoxTV has confirmed the multi-platinum singer-songwriter will play Eddie, the rock-n-roll delivery boy who meets a not-so-happy end, in its live broadcast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show this fall. Eddie sings one of the more badass songs, “Hot Patootie (Bless My Soul).”
The role has historically been cast with stars who aren’t your mother’s musical theater actors: Lea DeLaria played him on Broadway in the early 2000s, and Meat Loaf of course played him in the 1975 film.
When we spoke to Lambert last year for our cover story “Adam Lambert: There I Said It,” he told Paul Hagen: “I would love to do some film and TV stuff if possible. Actually my main goal is to keep working! […] As long as I can pay the rent and get do what I love to do, I’m fine!” Looks like he’ll make rent this year.
Lambert and Cox will be joined by Victoria Justice (Janet), Ryan McCartan (Brad), Reeve Carney (Riff Raff) and Staz Nair (Rocky). Rocky Horror airs on Fox this fall.
