Inaugural Weekend of Desert Air Makes a Splash

Splash House and Goldenvoice debuted a dance weekend getaway under the Palm Springs desert sky on December 10-11 – Desert Air.  Yes, the masterminds behind the successful Splash House that makes a splash every August in Palm Springs, hosted two intimate days of world class underground dance music amongst the historic aircrafts of the Palm Springs Air Museum.

One stage set directly on the tarmac with the beauty and magnetism of the desert in winter.

The colder weather provided a bit different scene from that of the summer pool parties, but don’t be fooled… the high quality mixes were still mercilessly satisfying.

DJ lineup included Dixon, DJ Koze, The Martinez Brothers, Peggy Gou, and several other world renowned artists.

And, Desert Air offered a selection of local experiences to take part in before the show – from guided hikes, to wine tasting, to morning yoga – or my favorite,  soaring into the wild blue yonder in a PT-17 Stearman, a legendary WWII biplane to experience first hand what it’s like to fly in one of the fastest propeller planes ever built.

The festival’s unique backdrop provided for an outdoor covid-safe bash where festival-goers could get lost in the atmosphere. As the cold outdoor desert air hit our lungs with a nourishing infusion of vitality, we looked around to see people laughing, connecting, and exuding a rare authenticity that only presents itself after dark.
