Calling NYC-Area LGBTQ Parents: Give Your Kid a Chance to Shine

We know that LGBTQ parents face unique challenges. (Check out our article on choosing the right schools to make your kids feel accepted. ) But here’s an opportunity to celebrate your child in a way that makes them feel special just for being who they are.

Each year, our friends at NYMetroParents host a Cover Contest to give NYC-area kids the chance to be featured on their magazines’ covers. In order for your kid to be considered, head to their Facebook and upload a photo of your adorable little guy, gal or gender non-conforming kid. Fans of NYMetroParents will then be able to vote once a day for their favorite entry, so feel free to round up your pals to whip up a few votes in your child’s favor.

The kid whose pic gets the most votes will be named the Fan Favorite, and the NYMetroParents staff will choose an additional nine kids to also be featured. Their official criteria includes personality, charm, and marketability. They appreciate joy, bright smiles, playfulness, silliness or even thoughtful, quiet reserve — whatever lets your child’s spirit shine through. The team also consults with a professional photographer, who will photograph eight of the finalists and the Fan Favorite. From the resulting images, they select one winner to appear on their covers.
