Need a Lift? Call the AAA Girls for Buoyant Fun

Music editor Matt Gross caught up with the AAA Girls just as they were about to embark on a national tour to promote their new album, Access All Areas. The results, and the conversation, were expectedly over the top.

Willam

Strangest fan encounter – After experiencing . . . ahem . . . performance issues, a fan actually found it a turn-on to ask me out of the blue “What did you really do on Drag Race?” regarding my disqualification.

Most iconic moment on the show – The most iconic moment on RuPaul’s Drag Race was the Sharon & Phi Phi lip sync on Season 4. The stakes were high and so was I. There were no previous shark jumps to even think that that was coming. It was straight-up drama and left a lingering mystery, which I’ve since explained in my book, “Suck Less.”

What I’m looking most forward to on the AAA Girls tour – I’m looking forward to giving a man or two a private tour of the bus in each city.

My song of the summer is… – Since it’s after Labor Day I’ll give you my summer jam – it’s the Access All Areas album by AAA Girls now available on iTunes, and my song about my actions from summers past for the fall, “Once Upon A Time (Not Long Ago I Was A Hoe).”

Worst read I’ve ever received – Miley Cyrus said I looked like a Barbie doll that got left outside but meant it as a compliment. She’s the best.

Courtney Act

Strangest fan encounter – Does sex with fans count?

Most iconic moment on the show – THE WINGS!

What I’m looking most forward to on the AAA Girls tour – Performing a concert of our album Access All Areas. I love the songs on it so much. I can’t wait to do ‘AAA’ and ‘Pride Or Die’. They are my two faves.

My song of the summer is “Supercut” by Lorde is my fave track off my fave album of the summer. It’s a breakup album and I was going through a breakup.

Worst read I’ve ever received – Every fourth comment out of Willam’s mouth.

Alaska

Strangest fan encounter – I love whenever fans get my autograph tattooed onto their bodies. One of my favorites is named Teddy in the U.K. who had me sign his ass during one of my first visits overseas. He got it tattooed and I make him show everyone at shows to this day.

Most iconic moment on the show – I loved when Lady Gaga  — or as I call her, Stefani, since we’re on a first name basis — visited the show. It was a moment where it went beyond a celebrity using drag queens for clout or street cred. She truly is a queen, and she truly is one of us and her visit came from a very reverent, respectful place.

What I’m looking most forward to on the AAA Girls tour – I’m looking forward to sharing this music with the world, microphones that work and a tour bus I can watch Golden Girls on.

My song of the summer? — It’s “Power” by Little Mix!

Worst read I’ve ever received – I remember La Toya Jackson read me to filth on Season 5 of Drag Race. She said I looked like a bridesmaid reject or something. I’ve never looked at her the same way since.
