These Stationers Specialize in Gay Weddings

With the recent United States Supreme Court decision, the demand for products and services designed for same-sex weddings will undoubtedly continue to boom. Nevertheless, a trip to virtually any card aisle in America will still leave anyone hoping for same-sex wedding-themed cards or stationery scratching their heads.

Fortunately, some forward-thinking companies are looking to fill that gap.

Checkerboard

Checkerboard LTD, a third-generation family-owned stationery company, was the first mainstream company to offer fine stationery, invitations, announcements, and holiday cards for the LGBT community back in 2003 — an action considered controversial 12 years ago. Their custom-printed LGBT stationery includes everything from invitations to save-the-date cards to thank you notes.
We checked out Checkerboard’s same-sex inclusive offerings and were drawn to their popular “New Direction Save the Date Photo Card,” which is designed to feature a picture of the happy couple. Their “Wedding Pocket Invitation” (pictured) feels luxe with its sheer organza ribbon and shimmery champagne gold pouch. Or, for something slightly more outspoken, their “Hitched U.S.A.” wedding invitation both celebrates the couple’s upcoming union and salutes our country for making it legal nationwide. Beyond paper goods, they’ve also got same-sex wall decor for displaying marriage certificates and his & his (or hers & hers) personalized throw pillows. checkernet.com

Design With Heart

The Grommet is a company devoted to launching undiscovered products inspired by great stories. Here’s the story behind the collection of cards they began recently offering called Design with Heart: When Jason Bradley-Kraus married his longtime partner Chris, they received six of the exact same card. So Jason, an award-winning graphic designer, decided to start creating some innovative cards to add some variety to the market. He named his new project Design with Heart, and they now create gay marriage and other celebratory cards for LGBT people with mottoes like “Love Is Love,” and “Love, no matter who you are or who you love.” Their work features uncluttered graphics and messages that range from tongue-in-cheek humor to sincere romance
For couples struggling with crafting the perfect wedding invitation, Design with Heart has great solutions. Their custom wedding invitations vibrantly reflect grooms’ personalities and wedding themes. Meanwhile, guests can look to their line of Marriage Equality cards, which includes a wide range of greetings that will help alleviate the struggle to find appropriate ways to express congratulations. Example messages include “Married at Last!” “Love Always Wins” (pictured), “Here Come the Grooms” and, naturally, “Let’s Hear It for the Boys.”
