Veep (The Complete Third Season)

This hysterical series, which follows the foibles of fictional Vice President Selina Meyer and her staff, is definitely a satire; however, it also seems at times to be a surprisingly accurate portrayal of the image-obsessed denizens of Washington, DC.

Creator Armando Iannucci has made a career of lampooning the ridiculous inner workings of politics, and Veep shows off his signature rhythm and steadily-flowing humor. There’s a reason Julia Louis-Dreyfus (pictured) keeps racking up Emmys for this role: She is even funnier here than she was on Seinfeld. Plus, she’s supported by a crackerjack cast delivering consistently hilarious performances.

THE WORD: This excellent season set the stage for a presidental campaign when the series returns on April 12.
