The date corresponds with Stonewall 50, the official commemoration of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising. The theme of Stonewall 50/WorldPride 2019 will be “Millions of Moments of Pride,” expressed two months of events, including those of NYC Pride such as the historic March, Rally and PrideFest. Organizers anticipate the convergence of the two events will lead to one of the largest LGBT events ever to occur.

Past WorldPride host cities have included Rome, Jerusalem, London and Toronto. The 2017 event will take place in Madrid.

See the video NYC Pride produced in support of their winning bid, presented this past weekend at the annual general meeting of InterPride in Las Vegas. InterPride is the international organization of LGBT Pride organizers.
