A flight to Alberta, and a two-hour drive will whisk you away to some staggeringly beautiful Canadian scenery.
Moraine Lake is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of approximately 6,183 feet. To get there, you’ll need to jet into Calgary Airport in Alberta, Canada and spend the better part of three hours touring the aTrans-Canada Highway. It may seem far, but trust me, you won’t be bored. I remember the very first time I visited, I spent a delightful five hours because I kept stopping to snap the most scenic spots. And just when you think you’ve seen the most beautiful lake or mountain range, you’ll take a turn and see yet another prettier one.
When friends see the images I took of Moraine Lake, they’ll ask if they’ve been altered because the turquoise water seems almost surreal. When the lake is at peak capacity, it reflects a distinctive shade of blue. The color is due to the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake on a continual basis.
The area around the lake has several walking/hiking trails. There is a rockpile trail along the entrance to the lake which is around 300 meters in height where you can take stunning images of the lake with the craggy mountains in the background.
