Ryan Murphy’s Orlando Tribute Features 49 Famous Allies

Ryan Murphy, the visionary behind Glee and American Horror Story, got 49 of his friends together to pay tribute to the victims of the Pulse nightclub massacre.

The video, directed by Murphy and Ned Martel, features 49 celebrities — including Lady Gaga, Sofia Vergara, Lea Michele, Chris Pine, Kerry Washington, Matt Bomer and Sarah Paulson — describing the victims’ lives in detail. The tribute was assembled over the course of three days in Los Angeles’ Fox Studios. Murphy is also gay and a longtime supporter of LGBT-related causes. We’ll let his video speak for itself.

In a statement released concurrently with the tribute, Murphy said, “The hate that stole these 49 individuals from all those who loved them has been allowed to flourish in our country for too long. No person is born hating another, and we have an obligation as Americans to stand up against prejudice and bigotry that would incite violence against someone simply for who they are. I am proud to have joined with Ned Martel, my talented colleagues, and the Human Rights Campaign to honor these 49 heroes and stop the hate.”

The HRC is asking supporters to visit stopthehate.hrc.org and/or healorlando.org, plus to reach out to their local legislators and demand new preventative gun legislation and LGBT protection.
