Tips for Funding Gay Causes

While the LGBTQ+ causes have made headway in the last few decades, there is still plenty of work to be done. It’s time to get creative. Most of the obstacles come from the fact that most funding for these endeavors comes from corporate entities. If you want to make a difference in your community and do it without the influence of companies that may or may not care about the cause, you will need to think outside the box. Below are some tips to fund gay causes.

Crowdfund Gay Businesses

Crowdfunding has become an effective and lucrative way to fund all kinds of LGBTQ+ causes. One great way to support gay communities is to crowdfund businesses. This means that when a gay business is struggling, or a member of your community is trying to start a business, crowdfunding can be the best way to get the job done. It can be difficult to get funding for an openly gay business, especially in a red state. But this shouldn’t be the case, and as we work toward spreading the word and facilitating the formation of gay-owned businesses, crowdfunding will be less and less necessary. Until then, your support is appreciated.

Set Up a Tent at Events

Of course, there is Pride, but the cause needs to be spread to other events. One way to make a difference and spread awareness about a specific gay cause is to set up a tent at a local event or on the street. A heavy duty tent will enable you to stay out of the sun while spreading the message you are aiming to spread. Whether you are raising awareness about violence against the LGBTQ+ community or are promoting a gay business, setting up a physical tent and engaging with people does so much more than posting online. You just might change someone’s mind about homosexuality and gender issues.

Donate to Gay Politicians

Another way to move the dial and create change in specific areas of the country is to donate to gay people running for office. If you are faced with discriminatory laws, putting a member of your community who can fight them into office could move the dial considerably. Not only will the person have the chance to make real change, but they will also raise the profile and awareness of LGBTQ+ issues. Donating to people running for office may not change everything, but it will have an impact on the politics of your home and could lead to significant changes in the view and laws of where you live.

Divert Funding from Companies Donating to Anti-LGBTQ+ Causes

In recent years, there has been a lot of focus on companies who donate to anti-LGBTQ+ campaigns and causes. One way to fight this action is to spread the word about their donations in hopes that people will stop supporting the business, investing in it, or donating to anti-gay politicians. This is a dynamic environment, one fraught with peril, but if we continue to raise awareness about the people who are negatively impacting our communities, the tide will turn.

You can’t expect people to stop eating at Chick-Fil-A, but you can speak openly about their feelings. You can’t change what people think and believe, but you can spread awareness. Money talks, and it’s possible to divert funds from anti-gay initiatives to pro-gay ones.

It might seem like gay causes have the funding they need, but this is not necessarily the case. When it comes to how homosexuality and gender issues are treated in the mainstream American culture, there is still work to be done. Luckily, there are more and more ways to fund gay causes. Whether it’s by crowdfunding gay businesses, donating to pro-gay politicians, or raising awareness and engaging with people in person, funding gay causes is the way to make change in modern America.

Funding gay causes can raise the awareness of issues in the community. It can help gay businesses, mitigate violence against LGBTQ+ people, change laws, and divert funding from anti-gay causes to pro-gay initiatives. Whatever the goal, the above tips can facilitate the acceptance and prosperity of our communities. What are you waiting for? It’s time to do the work!
