Yet she’s also displayed undeniable bravery — in her iconic interview with Diane Sawyer, her instantly legendary Vanity Fair cover, even her surprisingly thoughtful E! docuseries I Am Cait. Imagine being her, about to become the controversial recipient of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2015 ESPY awards in a room full of people more used to cheering touchdowns than trans people: It’s clear that she has earned her ovation.
