People We Love 2015: Lin-Manuel Miranda

We love Lin-Manuel Miranda for changing history, and theater history…

It’s not a musical that should be a runaway hit: a lesson in 18th-century American history told in hip-hop rhymes. But soon after The Public Theater first presented Hamilton off-Broadway, it became a sell-out. Now, it’s a next-to-impossible-to-score ticket on Broadway, and the show’s star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has been named a MacArthur Genius for changing the Broadway musical, putting Hamilton in the same league as classics like A Chorus Line and Oklahoma!
